Choosing Versus Wanting

When people see those who are thriving and living their best lives, they tend to think that these people must have figured out the “secret.” But the truth is this “secret” isn’t some magical tool that will solve all your problems in a snap. The “secret” lies within you.

Choosing entails an understanding and acceptance of the path that your goal will eventually take you. Wanting is having a fixed gaze in the destination whereas choosing looks at the journey. The problem with merely wanting, for example, building wealth is that it disregards the hardships and effort that you would have to actually put out. The tendency then is to look and avail of the easiest and fastest method in order to get there. What comes into mind are bogus schemes where they charge you ten times more than what you actually learn from them. Of course, in our desire to get wealthy upon learning of its benefits and how it will improve our lives, it’s inevitable that you would think about the easiest way to achieve that. However, good things never come to you easily. Choosing recognizes this difficulty. When you choose to go into the path of building wealth, you also choose to be strategic in your approach. You will notice that your actions will start to gear towards that goal.

Most importantly, you choose to change. What you are, where you are, and who you are right now are products of your decisions in your day-to-day life. So, really, the secret isn’t something like an obscure business plan. It starts with you and your decision to change. What are the things that have led me to where I am right now? What worked? What didn’t? There’s no mystery or magic that are involved here. It’s cause and effect.

What I can tell you now is that wealth happens in the morning, the first moment you are able to tell yourself and decide to make today an opportunity for growth and progress. Wealth is a commitment that cannot be satisfied by mere want. It’s achieved by constantly choosing to do and be better everyday.
