Why Rewarding Yourself is Important

Grinding everyday without breaks or pauses in between is a cause for an inevitable burnout. You will start to feel more exhausted and less motivated to accomplish more tasks, and along the way, you might even forget why you’re doing the things you’re doing in the first place. The constant stress, exhaustion, and pressure from working and doing more can foster a negative, clouded judgement in our heads. As time passes by, you might start asking yourself “Why am I putting myself through so much hardship?”

This is where what I call rewards and recharge come in. Rewarding yourself isn’t some free pass to go out and splurge on the things you’ve been wanting to buy. It also doesn’t mean you have to travel far away or go on a cruise for the next week. Rewards can be that but they’re the little things as well -- a day off from work, taking a walk in the park, watching a movie, going out with friends, and the like. No matter how small the reward may be, taking the time off and treating yourself can open up new opportunities for you to discover new ideas, resources, and an expanded sense of possibility.

Consequently, taking the time to rest and recharge is not wasting time. In a sense, you are also being productive. Think of it this way: when you take a break from all the work and all the stressors, your mind and body releases tension which will help you regain the strength necessary to continue moving forward. Just because you’re doing “nothing,” or anything else other than your work, doesn’t mean that you’re wasting time. Recharging is actually an integral part of the process. Without it, you wouldn’t reach too far.

The path to building wealth, achieving your goals, and constructing your vision is a path that not only requires perseverance, but also the strength and openness to recognize when to pause. Rewarding yourself and recharging are crucial steps you need to take time and time again in this path.
